Carne And Our Community

Turasoireacht Iorrais Teo, the Company that owns and operates Carne Golf Links, is a not for profit organisation, established in 1985, whose primary aims and objectives are to promote and foster the development of tourism in the Erris region of North Mayo.

The foundation for the establishment of such an organisation was to create local employment opportunities and to attract tourists to this remote, beautiful region. To further these aims the Company acquired 220 acres of land in Carne in 1989 and proceeded to develop the now legendary Carne Golf Links, with the help of Irish golf course designer, Eddie Hackett. As a not for profit organisation, we recognise the importance of our community to our business, and the importance of our business to our community. We are of key importance to the local economy, we provide 23 full and part time jobs, and when the procurement of local supplies and services are factored in, alongside the provision of bed nights to local accommodation providers and the spend in the local economy of our visitors, we generate an estimated €8.2m for the Mayo economy. We are wholly committed to play our part in contributing to the lively, diverse, unique community that makes Erris such a special place. There are many voluntary and not for profit organisations operating in the area and we aim to support as many as we can in as many ways as we can, in recognition of the unique support that the Erris community have provided to Carne over the years. We see Carne as an essential part of the local community, and we only hold Carne in trust for the wider community. Some examples of local voluntary and community organisations that we have supported over the past few years….

RNLI (Ballyglass branch)

Living in a coastal area we know the importance of this fantastic organisation, staffed by volunteers from our community, who risk their own lives regularly to ensure the safety of others. We encourage everyone to contribute to the RNLI local branch if they can, and they are always seeking volunteers to help with fundraising initiatives etc. They can be found on Facebook

C.L.G Cill Chomáin

The neighbouring parish of Cill Chomáin advanced to the County Junior Final in 2021, and unfortunately it wasn’t their day either…. We contributed to the training fund to help them on their way to glory too.. and we have every confidence that day will come…
We are open to supporting charitable causes and fundraisers, it’s our way of giving something back, so please feel free to contact us to see if we can help.

C.L.G. Béal an Mhuirthead

The local Belmullet GAA team advanced to the Club Senior Championship Final in 2021, for the first time since 1982. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be this time, but we have every confidence their day will come… we contributed to the training fund to help them on their way to glory…

Erris Chamber of Commerce (Belmullet Christmas Lights)

We help to light up the town of Belmullet every Christmas via the local Erris Chamber of Commerce, who do a brilliant job of representing businesses in the region all year round!
