The foundation for the establishment of such an organisation was to create local employment opportunities and to attract tourists to this remote, beautiful region. To further these aims the Company acquired 220 acres of land in Carne in 1989 and proceeded to develop the now legendary Carne Golf Links, with the help of Irish golf course designer, Eddie Hackett. As a not for profit organisation, we recognise the importance of our community to our business, and the importance of our business to our community. We are of key importance to the local economy, we provide 23 full and part time jobs, and when the procurement of local supplies and services are factored in, alongside the provision of bed nights to local accommodation providers and the spend in the local economy of our visitors, we generate an estimated €8.2m for the Mayo economy. We are wholly committed to play our part in contributing to the lively, diverse, unique community that makes Erris such a special place. There are many voluntary and not for profit organisations operating in the area and we aim to support as many as we can in as many ways as we can, in recognition of the unique support that the Erris community have provided to Carne over the years. We see Carne as an essential part of the local community, and we only hold Carne in trust for the wider community. Some examples of local voluntary and community organisations that we have supported over the past few years….
